What is your favorite spot or thing to do in Portland?

Going to the farmers market at PSU on any available Saturday in the summer.

How long have you been working as a professional wedding planner?

I have been planning professionally for 10 years.

What people/training/experiences/opportunities led you to this career path?

I have always been the woman in charge of planning something. For years I worked for Liz Claiborne planning launch events and fashion shows all over the country. For many years after that, I could be found running any number of charity events in town. People continuously asked me to plan their parties, which is how BLC Events was born.

How would you describe the importance of your role & why do you feel a couple should hire a professional planner for their wedding day?

Although weddings are a very romantic time for a couple there are aspects of the planning process that are arduous and time-consuming. Hiring a planner can help alleviate the stress of all those decisions and allow couples to enjoy the planning process.

What is the best part of your job?

Walking into the finished ceremony and reception spaces with my clients for the first time and witnessing the look on their faces when they see firsthand the vision that has become a reality.

What do you find most challenging about your specific line of work or weddings in general?

People hire planners for their professional experience and knowledge. It can be very frustrating when clients do not take our advice.

Do you work solo or do you have a studio and/or team?

I have an invaluable team that works with me.

What do you attribute to your success as a wedding planner? What do you think makes you stand apart from others in your field?

Successful event planning is about creativity, organization, and execution. At BLC Events, our main objective is to achieve perfection in all aspects of the process.

At what point in the wedding planning process should clients hire you?

After they get engaged and before they have booked a venue. Many couples wait too long and miss out on valuable advice.

Where do you draw inspiration? Are there any current trends you are excited about?

I draw inspiration from many places; travel, art, pop culture. You never know what will spark a creative idea.

What is the most important thing that couples should ask someone in your profession before hiring them?

What made them become a wedding planner? If they don’t have a passion for the process, keep shopping!

What is your best advice for wedding clients?

Listen to your planner and remember to have a sense of humor throughout the planning process — it really helps!

Anything else you’d like couples to know about you?

I have a love affair with designing and coordinating perfect events for my clients.
