Where are you located and what kind of venue are you in general?

We’re an urban winery located in close-in Southeast Portland at 14th Avenue and Stark Street, near the newly renovated Revolution Hall.

Can you briefly describe your property/space including all the indoor and outdoor options?

Our most popular option is our Barrel Room. It’s a roughly 1,200-square-foot warehouse space with barrels lining the walls and cafe lights overhead. It’s kind of like looking up at the stars. Our Tasting Lounge is our front-of-house wine bar. It’s about the same size as the Barrel Room and has a mix of tables and chairs and high-end furniture. The Barrel Room can be rented separately or the two rooms can be rented together. We also have a handful of picnic tables on the sidewalk in front of the Tasting Lounge where patrons can relax in the sun when it shines. We also have a huge roll-up glass and aluminum garage door separating our Tasting Lounge from the sidewalk and picnic tables.

What is the maximum number of guests that can be seated for dinner and do you one caterer or a preferred list of caterers to choose from?

For our Barrel Room, we can accommodate 40 people for a seated dinner. If additional tables and chairs are rented, we can likely accommodate 50 total people in our Barrel Room. Our Tasting Lounge can accommodate another 40 people seated. Altogether, we can manage approximately 100 people if both spaces are rented. We have preferred caterers, but we do not require that you use our catering. We are also currently developing dinner menus at ENSO that we will prepare internally.

Do you offer lower rental rates for off-season months and/or non-Saturday weddings and does your venue have a rain plan?

No seasonal variations and no rain plan since we are an indoor venue.

How long has your venue been hosting weddings and events? And in your opinion, why is Portland (and surrounding areas) such an amazing place to plan a wedding?

We have been hosting weddings and events since we opened in 2011. Portland is just a place that offers so much, so close: nature, delicious restaurants, a beautiful river and, of course, wine!

What are a few things that make your venue unique and/or seem to attract wedding couples?

Being a winery in the middle of town means that you don’t need to make the drive to and from wine country; we bring wine country to the city. Our venue is unique in that it is a place of ease and style. It’s an urban chic space that used to be an ambulance service station. Look up at the 16-foot tall ceilings with exposed rafters and cafe lights in our Barrel Room. The barrels that line the walls of our Barrel Room (yes, they have wine in them!) warm up the area in the back. Unlike most wine bars or event spaces, we actually make all our wine in-house. But don’t worry, we won’t be making any while you’re getting married!

How would you describe the importance of the venue decision for couples and at what point in their wedding planning process should they be looking and booking their venue?

Having just gotten married in the last couple years, we know about picking wedding venues. (No, we didn’t get married at ENSO because it was too small for our 160-guest wedding and reception.) That said, ENSO isn’t the right place for every wedding — what place is?! Getting your venue booked is super important because it is the setting for which you can plan everything around. We suggested booking six months to a year in advance, but we do also accommodate last-minute weddings.

What is the best part about managing a wedding venue?

We love seeing our space come to life and we love seeing smiles on peoples faces. Our winery is so magical, and we love when we can share that magic.

What do you find most challenging about your specific line of work or weddings in general?
No doubt, most weddings can be a logistical nightmare; there is so much to convey and so much to arrange. We strongly recommend working with a wedding coordinator to create an ease for your special day.

What are a few of the most important things that couples should ask their venue before booking?

What is your deposit policy? Have you done a wedding/event like this before? What can be moved and what is stationary? How many bathrooms are there? What kind of food/alcohol is available?

What is your best advice for wedding clients during their venue search or in general?

Check out places in person if possible. Pictures can only convey so much. Seeing the venue can allow you to dream up what you’d like to do with it.

Is there anything else you want couples or other wedding professionals to know about you or your venue?

We were named Bar of the Year a couple years ago in an article that showed how much we value hospitality and understanding. We ain’t stuck up, but we make some damn fine wine!

What is the best way for couples to check out your venue online and/or set up a tour to visit you in person?
