Where are you originally from? And how long have you been in Portland?
Kayla: I was born in Texas but moved to Oregon when I was very young, so this is my home. I moved to Arizona for a few years after high school, that is where I met my awesome husband. We have been back in Portland for a little over 6 years!

Kayla: I love so many things about Portland. I love and appreciate the kindness of the people here. The food is amazing. The one thing that stands out to me is how much we love and appreciate the sun. I love when the sun comes out you can hear people mowing their lawns, kids playing, the energy is just amazing!
Chelsea: There is so much to do! I love that we are just a drive away from the coast and the mountain and just how gorgeous our natural landscape is!

Kayla: Chelsea! Haha! I have always had the drive to own my own business. I knew that working for myself and serving people was something I wanted to do. But Chelsea bringing cake and flowers home from her events sealed the deal for me.
Chelsea: I was really able to get my feet wet and experience so many different aspects of the event industry throughout my career which I feel like has always been a great selling point for our clients. I know the ins and outs of catering, hotel blocks, venue management and wedding planning! There are so many people in each part of my journey that I have had the opportunity to learn from and I’m able to use their advice and expertise to this day!
How would you describe the importance of your role & why do you feel a couple should hire a professional coordinator for their wedding day?
We get so many couples that initially reach out to us and say “I love the planning process so I’m not sure I need a planner”. But once the planning starts there are so many small and large details that it can easily get overwhelming doing it on your own. Our goal is to help our clients feel supported during their planning. We are not looking to hijack the planning process but rather make it a seamless and enjoyable engagement.
What is the best part of your job?
Our clients! We strive to make lasting friendships with them! It is always sad when it is all over with because you spend so much time communicating and getting to know each other! We find ourselves still keeping up with all the fun updates such as moves, job changes, and growing families. So many CK couple babies have come into the world!!

What do you find most challenging about your specific line of work or weddings in general?
The behind the scenes of weddings, The everyday business stuff that takes a lot of time and attention. It is not always the most glamorous side of the job but someone has to do the accounting, updating social media and making sure the business is still running! We would rather be planning and designing with our clients!
Do you work solo or do you have a studio and/or team?
We are a small boutique style team with only 4 of us (Chelsea, Kayla, Valerie & Beth)! The great thing about us is when you book us, you will always get a combination of at least two of us on the day of!! We are constantly working close together and throwing ideas off of each other so most of the time we all get to know each couple and their event day no matter who the lead planner is for that wedding!
What do you attribute to your success as a wedding planner? What do you think makes you stand apart from others in your field?
We are best friends and we value our friendship; our goal is to bring our clients into that friendship. We believe that is what truly sets us apart. Knowing that you can just walk into a meeting with us after a long day and feel at ease is what we strive for.
At what point in the wedding planning process should clients hire you?
We love being along for the entire planning process!! Call us when you get engaged. We can help you detail your budget and choose your venue right off the bat. We love being a support system for you and being with you for all of those important decisions.

Where do you draw inspiration? Are there any current trends you are excited about?
We try really hard to stay away from Pinterest and Instagram and try to find inspiration in our everyday routine! We are excited to see bold colors and patterns being brought back! We love the classic look of the white with greenery but we have seen it so much. We love the opportunity to help our clients make their day unique and special to them. People should walk into your wedding and see you in those details.
What is the most important thing that couples should ask someone in your profession before hiring them?
We think it is important to know how many events that the specific person is doing in a year, that way you can gauge the personal experience you are going to get with that planner! Some clients want to work with a company that has multiple people on the staff and then there are some that like to work with a small business. It is all about what kind of experience you want and the kind of relationships you want to create.
What is your best advice for wedding clients?
Enjoy the process! Don’t stress over the small things! We always recommend our clients get their guest list together and understand that a large part of where you spend your budget is determined by the guest count.
Anything else you’d like couples to know about you?
We are really excited that this is what we get to wake up and do every day! Not only do we get to meet awesome people but we get to work side by side every day which is an awesome experience!
