Vendor Shout Out: Methven Family Vineyards

For all of our couples dreaming of tying the knot at a gorgeous vineyard- plan to visit Methven Family Vineyards! We are thrilled to feature their venue and to share more information about their estate. Read on to see more and check out their website to get in touch!

Where are you located and what kind of venue are you in general?

Methven Family Vineyards is in the heart of the Willamette Valley, Eola-Amity Hills AVA.  Our estate totals 100 acres, with 30 of those acres under vine.

Can you briefly describe your property/space including all the indoor and outdoor options?

Methven Family Vineyards has multiple options, depending on the season. Spring, summer, and into fall, we have a 60 x 80 tent that is set up alongside our covered patio just steps from our tasting room, with tables and chairs provided.  During winter months our cellar can provide a romantic and intimate feel. Our estate tasting room and tent is in the center of the vineyard, surrounded by an immaculate landscape of roses, hydrangeas, wisteria, and lavender.  Our favorite ceremony site is lush and (weather permitting) provides a sweeping view of Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson and Mount Saint Helens. Our estate is equipped with an open gourmet kitchen that can easily become a private space for caterers.  On- site we have three restrooms for guests, a full bocce ball court, as well as lawn games.

What is the maximum number of guests that can be seated for dinner and do you one caterer or a preferred list of caterers to choose from?

220 guests seated, during spring, summer and early fall (when our tent is set-up). For intimate events in our cellar and tasting room during winter months, our maximum guest count for seated is 50.  We are always happy to recommend our favorite chefs and caterers that we have used for our club and on-site events.

Do you offer lower rental rates for off season months and/or non-Saturday weddings and does your venue have a rain plan?

Methven Family Vineyards offers lower rates during the off season which is December through March.  Weddings held on any day besides Saturday are also negotiable to a lower rate. In the event of rain, our outdoor tent has sides that can easily be zipped, as well as, our covered patio and the indoor tasting room and wine cellar.  Our tent stays assembled May through September.

How long has your venue been hosting weddings and events? And in your opinion, why is Portland (and surrounding areas) such an amazing place to plan a wedding?

We have hosted weddings for 7 years. The beauty of our region is truly breathtaking.  There is endless opportunity to create a magical day with the bounty of The Willamette Valley and surrounding areas in Oregon. The Willamette Valley produces an abundance of stunning wines, fresh produce, small farms with ethically raised meat and stewards that take pride in our industry.

What are a few things that make your venue unique and/or seem to attract wedding couples?

Methven Family Vineyards is an estate winery with sweeping views, lush landscape and the proximity to Portland and McMinnville is convenient with traveling guests. Vineyard weddings are naturally a dream setting and our space is fun!  All our wines are estate produced and bottled and because we are family owned and operated, we offer event pricing that is realistic to couples starting their life together.

How would you describe the importance of the venue decision for couples and at what point in their wedding planning process should they be looking and booking their venue?

Choosing your venue is one of the most important decisions you can make as it sets the precedent for such a special day.  Communication and expectations for the Bride and Groom along with owners/operators of your venue is an important process. Being informed of the rules regarding alcohol, music, caterers, decorations, ETC, is an important process when planning- we strongly suggest having everything in writing.

What is the best part about managing a wedding venue?

The best part about managing a wedding venue is seeing the couple’s vision for such an amazing day of their lives come to fruition. Seeing our beautiful estate transform into a dream filled with love, happiness and celebration is a gift.

What do you find most challenging about your specific line of work or weddings in general?

Guiding couples to adjust unrealistic ideas, because we curate in house events and know our limitations from our own mistakes. We want to move heaven and earth to give you the day you have dreamed about, but not everything is feasible.

What are a few of the most important things that couples should ask their venue before booking?

Decoration policies, noise variance policies with outdoor facilities, alcohol policies (wine, beer, spirits). Also having a vision on paper can be very helpful to give your potential venue an idea of what you’re looking for.

What is your best advice for wedding clients during their venue search or in general?

Don’t settle and do your research, there are a lot of wonderful venues. Book at least 1 year out (don’t feel rushed). If you can’t afford a wedding planner use a day of coordinator from a preferred vendor list.

What is the best way for couples to check out your venue online and/or set up a tour to visit you in person?
