Where are you originally from? And how long have you been in Portland?
I’m originally from San Luis Obispo, CA, and I moved to the Portland area in 2003.
What is your favorite thing about Portland?
All the green! Every time I go back to California for a visit, I come back realizing what a beautiful place we live in.
What is your favorite spot or thing to do in Portland?
I’m going to be honest…I don’t get out a lot. But when I do, I love a good drag show!
How long have you been working as a professional Makeup Artist?
Over 15 years!

I started my career in the retail side of the beauty industry, working for large brands such as Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilbury, and Tom Ford. I worked my way up into management roles, which was a key learning experience and heavily influences how I run my own business now. I made the switch to freelance makeup artistry in 2010, and started my own business in 2015.
How would you describe the importance of your role & why do you feel a couple should hire a professional makeup artist for their wedding day?
Hiring a professional makeup artist and hairstylist is a key part of ensuring your photos will look the absolute best they can. We will work with you to create a look that suits you, your personality, and the style of your wedding. Hiring a professional makeup artist can also alleviate a lot of stress the morning of your wedding. We show up with everything (including lights and chairs) and do all the work for you. You get to relax and enjoy being pampered.
What is the best part of your job?
Making brides feel beautiful. Making a bride happy and knowing we were a part of something so special is just amazing.
What do you find most challenging about your specific line of work or weddings in general?
Keeping everyone on schedule when we have large bridal parties. One of my brides referred to getting her whole bridal party into one room as “like herding cats.”
Do you work solo or do you have a studio and/or team?
I am incredibly lucky to have a team of amazing artists and stylists who work with me. They are all dedicated, talented, kind human beings, and I’m forever grateful that I get to work alongside each of them.
What do you attribute to your success as a wedding makeup artist? What do you think makes you stand apart from others in your field?
I attribute our success to the level of customer service we strive to provide to all of our clients. One thing I’ve learned in my years in the retail world is that every client wants to be heard. We really try to consult with each bride and find out what she’s looking for. Every woman has something uniquely beautiful about them, and our goal is to bring that out. I think my approach to the planning process is something sets us apart. I really love working closely with planners, as well as the bride to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day of the wedding.

At what point in the wedding planning process should clients hire you?
As early as possible. We book 6-18+ months in advance, so early booking is encouraged.
Where do you draw inspiration? Are there any current trends you are excited about?
I’ve always drawn inspiration from timeless beauty, and top makeup artists like Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, and Lisa Eldridge. I’m also a giant makeup book nerd. Makeup trends come and go, and I love classic makeup that will stand the test of time. Weather it’s natural, or dramatic, I want you to be able to able to look at your makeup in 10 years and still feel like you looked gorgeous!
What is the most important thing that brides should ask someone in your profession before hiring them?
Are you licensed? How many years of experience do you have? How would you describe your style of makeup?
What is your best advice for wedding clients?
Hire an amazing wedding planner! They will make your life so much easier, and your vendors love working with them too.
Anything else you’d like couples to know about you?
I love what I do, and I take your face very, very seriously!
What other local wedding professional (s) are currently inspiring you?
I love my photographers! There are so many amazingly talented photographers in Portland, but to name a few, Deyla Huss, Sweetlife, Jessica Hill, and Honeysuckle are some of my favorites! They all see their subjects through their own unique lenses (photography pun), and create something amazing every time. There’s nothing better than seeing our brides captured in the special moments that we don’t always get to see.
