Vendor Shout-Out: Sloshy Pops

We really can’t think of anything better than boozy popsicles that are made with unique local ingredients. When we met the owners of Sloshy Pops we were blown away by their local inspiration, creativity, professionalism, customer service, and bubbly personalities! And once we tried one of their hand crafted refreshing adult treats…it was all over. Their product is to die for and there are so many awesome flavors and options. We highly recommend them for your wedding or event! Learn more about them below.

Where are you originally from? And how long have you been in Portland?

Cheryl is originally from the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. She lived in Philadelphia from 1999 to 2004, when she moved to Portland. Carl is from Eugene, Oregon. He lived in New York from 2000 to 2006, when he moved to Portland.

What is your favorite thing about Portland?

Cheryl’s favorite thing about Portland is the community of people she found here. Carl’s favorite thing about Portland is the food and music scene.

What is your favorite spot or thing to do in Portland?

Cheryl’s favorite spot in Portland is Kelly Point Park; it is the perfect place for her to clear her head, plan the next steps for her business and relax. Carl’s favorite thing to do in Portland is cooking and making popsicles.

How long have you been working as a professional wedding vendor?

We have been working in the wedding industry for the past 2 1/2 years.

What people/training/experiences/opportunities led you to this career path?

Cheryl has been a high-level service industry fixture since 2004. Her experience as a bartender and love for spirits led her to the world of alcoholic popsicles. Her customer service skills and eye for details in the industry also helped her on this path. This is not her first entrepreneurial endeavor; she had her own jewelry business called Heart of Metal Design, which she successfully ran for eight years. This past experience helped with the business side of Sloshy Pops. Carl is a self-made chef and had a catering company in New York.  He has pursued his love for cooking and the science behind food for a very long time; this led him to be the head chef at Sloshy Pops.

How would you describe the importance of your role & why do you feel a couple should hire you for their wedding day?

Cheryl is extremely organized and reliable and a hard worker and she has incredible customer service skills as well as an uncanny eye for detail. Carl is the insurance that every popsicle tastes incredible, and they look perfect for the day of the wedding. This power team of two will not disappoint a couple on their very special day!

What is the best part of your job?

For Cheryl, the best part of her job is connecting with clients, other vendors and people in the wedding community.  She loves to network and socialize as well as make people happy with an incredibly good boozy popsicle. Carl’s favorite part is the making of the pops. He loves coming up with new flavors and making the pops themselves. It is extremely satisfying to him when people enjoy one of his creations.

What do you find most challenging about your specific line of work or weddings in general?

For Cheryl, her biggest challenge is graphic design and marketing, but it is also one of her favorite things, as well.  It is fun for her to learn and improve on these skill sets. For Carl, it is having enough time to do everything; he is still working part-time at another job.

Do you work solo or do you have a studio and/or team?

Cheryl and Carl is the dynamic team of two that is Sloshy Pops. We work closely making and modifying the pops.  Cheryl works separately on the business side of Sloshy Pops.

What do you attribute to your success? What do you think makes you stand apart from others in your field?

We believe we are successful because our product is unique and delicious. No one else is doing what we are doing and people seem to really enjoy the novelty of it.

At what point in the wedding planning process should clients hire you?

Eight times out of 10, clients will contact us a few months before the wedding date. We seem to be a last-minute add-on. But to ensure the date is available, we suggest contacting us as soon as possible.

Where do you draw inspiration? Are there any current trends you are excited about?

Our inspiration comes from the abundance of beautiful locally sourced fruit in our area. We use additional sweetness sparingly to high light the beauty of the in-season fruits. Pairing the spirits with the fruit is fun and creative. We lean towards more classic-style cocktails and like to keep it simple to not overcomplicate a good thing.

What is the most important thing that couples should ask someone in your profession before hiring them?

“Are you reliable, on time, and take pride in your product?”

What is your best advice for wedding clients?

Sloshy Pops is all about having fun, celebrating and bringing the party. Weddings are meant to be a celebration, so  relax, add some fun things for your guests on your big day and let the wedding planners and vendors handle the stressful parts.

Anything else you’d like couples to know about you?

We have been well received from the start, and our business is growing! We love our product and what we do. Each popsicle has at least 3/4 oz of alcohol and is considered around 6.5 percent ABV. We offer non-alcoholic options for those who do not or cannot imbibe. Clients can customize their popsicle flavors to their liking and we do a tasting about a month before the wedding date.
