Are you envisioning a Portland ballroom wedding? If so, there is a hidden gem right in our downtown. The West End Ballroom is a historic theater that will charm you with all it’s vintage details. Two ballrooms, french doors, balcony, theater marquee, and original fireplace (to name a few). You will love the vibe of this venue and you should schedule a visit to check out all of it’s character in person! Learn more below.
Where are you located and what kind of venue are you in general?
Our historic ballroom sits a few blocks off Southwest Broadway, near all downtown hotels, Pioneer Square, and the Max and bus lines to all downtown destinations. We’re convenient to many photo opportunities, including the Portland Park Blocks, the Arlene Schnitzer concert hall, the beautiful downtown library and, for a more urban setting, Director Park. This is a gorgeous ballroom.
Can you briefly describe your property/space including all the indoor and outdoor options?
The West End Ballroom features many classic indoor and outdoor spaces. With tall ceilings, hardwood floors and large windows, the main ballroom is the ideal setting for an unforgettable celebration! The lower ballroom, typically used for the ceremony, features intimate lighting and cement flooring for a simple look as you exchange your vows.
What is the maximum number of guests that can be seated for dinner and do you one caterer or a preferred list of caterers to choose from?
The maximum capacity at this venue is 200. We have a preferred list of vendors including the caterers as well!
Do you offer lower rental rates for off-season months and/or non-Saturday weddings and does your venue have a rain plan?
We do offer booking specials for different days of the week and promotions for off-season rentals. Our venue is all indoors.
How long has your venue been hosting weddings and events? And in your opinion, why is Portland (and surrounding areas) such an amazing place to plan a wedding?
We have been hosting weddings since 2008! Visitors come to Portland to enjoy the combination of lush greenery and a plethora of fun and exciting events! The abundance of natural beauty and exciting environment makes Oregon an ideal place to be married.
What are a few things that make your venue unique and/or seem to attract wedding couples?
The ballroom used to be a theater, so it features a stage and a beautiful chandelier at the end of the room. We also have a unique alleyway that is exclusive to the building itself! The historical style of downtown Portland is what attracts most couples, and our unique style captivates them!
How would you describe the importance of the venue decision for couples and at what point in their wedding planning process should they be looking and booking their venue?
Deciding on your wedding venue is one of the most important aspects of the planning process. The venue is what sets the mood, feel and style of your wedding! Finding that perfect venue is super important, and most of our couples book us within 12-18 months before their wedding date.
What is the best part about managing a wedding venue?
We love seeing all the smiling faces when guests hit the dance floor!
What do you find most challenging about your specific line of work or weddings in general?
Making sure our venue is the site dreams are made of! Everyone has a different take on their big day; we strive to be versatile enough to cover the imagination!
What are a few of the most important things that couples should ask their venue before booking?
They should ask what is included in the rental of the venue. This will give the couple an idea of what they need to source outside of that. Also: “Do you have on-site catering or a preferred vendors list?”. This will lead you to the next step of your planning process, finding a caterer.
What is your best advice for wedding clients during their venue search or in general?
Have an idea of what you would want in the space; if you are looking for specifics, it is always better to know before you start your search!
What is the best way for couples to check out your venue online and/or set up a tour to visit you in person?
Email and phone calls are best for getting a tour scheduled! We have a virtual tour linked onto our website with details of everything included in the venue:(westendballroom.com; facebook.com/westendballroom; instagram.com/westendballroom.)
