Expert Post written by Locally Sourced NW

Portland has become an awesome destination for weddings! There are people from all over the country that have realized getting married in our awesome city has a lot to offer for them and their guests – and we take so much joy in helping them find the perfect way to showcase this awesome city to their loved ones.

When we help our couples plan their wedding day, there is always a common theme. They want their friends and family to have the best time, create amazing memories, and really experience all Portland has to offer.

This can start with an incredible welcome gift that greets them when they check in to their hotel or small favor boxes at the reception. We would love to give you a short list of musts and must-nots when it comes to gifting your guests.

You MUST give something that reflects your personality! Your guests love you and will love receiving a gift that you put time and thought into that reminds them of you. This does not mean you need to spend a ton of money – but you do have to make it personal and thoughtful. These guests have put huge amounts of energy into being there with you on your wedding day – so personal touches go a long way towards making them feel appreciated and loved.

You MUST NOT give stuff just to give it. If it has no meaning to you or the person you are gifting what’s the point? The generic wedding favors (i.e. matchbooks, coasters, and undesirable bars of chocolate) are not exactly something that guests are fighting over at the end of the night. People really want something they will enjoy that night or over the weekend – and they do not want to be packing a bunch of stuff in their suitcases to take home. We have found that things like candy buffets, hangover kits, Photo Booth photos, and other late night snacks are always a big hit. People LOVE food and no one wants a coaster with your face on it…no one.

You MUST plan ahead! This goes hand in hand with putting thought into it. But seriously – do not wait until the month before your wedding to start thinking about gifting the most important people in your life. This is something you will be happy to have off your planning checklist months in advance. You will be so glad you did!
